1.     Research Exchange

The Center actively participates in various conferences and international meetings in support of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI), which are promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).

2.     Research Management

As noted above, the Center is officially designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) as a qualified research institution under Article 2, Paragraph 8 of the Regulations for Handling Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research. In compliance with research ethics regulations, the Center properly manages both Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) and various other research funds in close collaboration with the Administrative Center.

Furthermore, in accordance with MEXT guidelines—including the "Guidelines for Responding to Misconduct in Research" (decided by the Minister of MEXT in August 2014) and the "Guidelines for Managing and Auditing Public Research Funds at Research Institutions" (decided by the Minister of MEXT in February 2014)—the Center has established a Whistleblowing and Consultation Desk regarding research misconduct and improper use of public research funds as follows:
